New York City's Vampire Weekend made a huge impact on the indie music scene in early 2008 with the release of their self-titled debut album. Seamlessly blending afro-pop with indie rock, they return with 'Contra', a record bursting with a refreshing enthusiasm for experimentation, forward thinking and, above all, talent. Surf guitar is scattered around the record, while single 'Cousins' shows off the bands liking for up-tempo quirkiness and clever lyrics.

2010 is the 10th Anniversary of Ian Dury's passing and in what will be a big year
for his music, a soundtrack for a generation of a certain age(!), the year begins
with the release of this essential collection of his best known and biggest recordings.
This
new collection features 20 recordings, including "What A Waste", "Reasons To Be Cheerful
(Part 3)", "I Want To Be Straight", as well as the No. 1 "Hit Me With Your Rhythm
Stick" and the title track to the forthcoming film "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll"...the
album also features extended versions of `Reasons To Be Cheerful (Part 3) and a hard
to find `Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick'.
Ian Dury was a fascinating character and
a unique Artist who gave the English language modern-day clichés in the
aptly named
album title `Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' and `Reasons To Be Cheerful'. His fans include
Sir Paul McCartney, Madness and Robbie Williams.
Now the subject of the critically
acclaimed biopic `Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll' starring Andy Serkis as Ian Dury, the film
focuses on his personal relationships during his rise to fame, as well as how he
dealt with and overcame his disability.
It is hard to believe that it is ten years
since Ian Dury passed-away but this new collection serves as a timely reminder as
to how great his songs were and how the recordings have stood the test of time....
30 years on!
