The Lost Symbol

In "Storms of My Grandchildren", Dr. James Hansen - the nation's leading scientist on climate issues - speaks out for the first time with the full truth about global warming: The planet is hurtling even more rapidly than previously acknowledged to a climatic point of no return. Although the threat of human-caused climate change is now widely recognized, politicians have failed to connect policy with the science, responding instead with ineffectual remedies dictated by special interests. Hansen shows why President Obama's solution, cap-and-trade, which Al Gore has signed on to, won't work; why we must phase out all coal, and why 350 ppm of carbon dioxide is a goal we must achieve if our children and grandchildren are to avoid global meltdown and the storms of the book's title. This urgent manifesto bucks conventional wisdom (including the Kyoto Protocol) and is sure to stir controversy, but Hansen - whose climate predictions have come to pass again and again, beginning in the 1980s when he first warned Congress about global warming - is the single most credible voice on the subject worldwide. Hansen paints a devastating but all-too-realistic picture of what will happen in the near future, mere years and decades from now, if we follow the course we're on. But he is also an optimist, showing that there is still time to do what we need to save the planet. Urgent, strong action is needed, and this book, released to coincide with the Copenhagen Conference in December 2009, will be key in setting the agenda going forward to create a groundswell, a tipping point, to save humanity - and our grandchildren - from a dire fate more imminent than we had supposed.

America – A country of many contrasts. For me, it presented the ultimate food trip to explore places, ingredients, food culture & traditions. I wanted to get to the heart of great American food, to get past the junk and super-sized portions. I set off on what I knew would be a completely inspiring trip. I wasn’t wrong. . . from New York to New Orleans, the energy of Los Angeles to the big skies of Wyoming, I found what I was looking for: some of the most diverse and delicious recipes I’ve ever come across! And with 120 of them in this book, I’ll show you the quick and easy way to put a little slice of America on your dinner table. What a trip!

Friends: Season 1-10 Complete Collection (15th Anniversary)

Celebrate the 15 year anniversary of one of TV's most successful show ever with this Friends Season 1 -10 box set, featuring more extras than you can shake a smelly cat at.

Popular American sitcom
Friends first appeared on our screens back in 1994, to little fanfare. The show followed the lives of six twenty-something singles--Monica (Courtney Cox), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), Joey (Matt LeBlanc), Ross (David Schwimmer), and Chandler (Matthew Perry)--who occupied a trendy New York loft apartment. These were essentially six beautiful people who had probably never known a hard day's work in their lives, and whose every utterance was a well-crafted witticism. But despite their idealized lifestyles and perfectly coiffed hairdos, there was something annoyingly endearing about them. Viewers could easily relate to their struggles with work, sex, and relationships because these were universal struggles - albeit heightened for comedic effect. From early on it was clear that Friends had successfully tapped into the zeitgeist of its time, and now, 10 series down the line, the show's broad appeal continues to live on in popular culture. This box set contains every episode from season 1 to 10.

Last Chance To See with Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine

Twenty years after HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY writer Douglas Adams and his friend, naturalist, Mark Carwardine travelled the globe in search of endangered animals (the progress of which was documented in the popular BBC radio series and companion book LAST CHANCE TO SEE), their amazing journey is retraced and reevaluated in this fascinating TV series. Adams' death in 2001 sadly put an end to the duo's adventures, so this series see his longtime friend, comedy legend Stephen Fry take up the challenge. Fry and Carwardine barely knew each other which makes their initial mission to find the Amazonian Manatee endearingly awkward, with both clearly intimidated by each others' vast knowledge. But the elusive manatee is just the tip of the iceberg, other episodes follow the trail of the Northern White Rhino, man-eating Komodo dragons, a flightless parrot, man's closest living relative, the pygmy chimpanzee and much more. As the pair re-investigate the disappearing animals of the world, the series highlights the worrying immediacy of extinction and what can be done to help prevent it.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on PS3

Nathan Drake is back, as gaming's most charismatic hero tries to solve the mystery of Marco Polo's last voyage (and earn himself a fortune in treasure at the same time). The original was one of the first games to really prove the power of the PS3, but this sequel is another huge leap forward.

The first game already mixed intense gunplay with precarious platform action, but this adds in new stealth elements and more flexible parkour style climbing controls. Your enemies have been upgraded as well, with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence that makes them just as agile and resourceful as you.

Always known for its stunning graphics, this sequel not only looks better but it's now much more dynamic, with fully destructible scenery in every level. Add-in all-new co-operative and competitive multiplayer and you've got one of the most exciting action adventures of the year.

Alexandra Burke - Overcome

Eight months after being crowned victor of the mighty X Factor, Alexandra Burke delivers Overcome. From the rumbling first bars of her sci-fi disco stormer single "Bad Boys", to the Red One fashioned dancehall groove of "Dumb", Alexandra’s A list produced Overcome is a party monster of a record, poised to knock the socks off even the most cynical pop enthusiast. Recorded over six months, Overcome is a collection of club smashes ("All Night," "Dumb," "Broken Heels") peppered with astonishingly soul-bearing slow jams ("Silence," "Perfect."). Created with the help of the industry's most in demand production houses (Roc Nation and Jay-Z, The Phantom Boyz, Red One, Stargate and The Freemasons) the album is a sonic manifestation of Alexandra’s ballsy personality, with the lady herself describing the collection as ‘a beast.’

Cheryl Cole - Three Words

Debut solo album from the Girls Aloud singer, who has risen to even greater popularity following her stint as a judge on 'The X Factor'. As opposed to the electro direction of Girls Aloud's recent work, this album has a distinct RnB influence due largely to the production contributions of will.i.am and Taio Cruz. A host of faces from the worlds of pop and dance were also involved, the striking cover portrait was shot by renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight, and the single 'Fight For This Love' is included.

Under the Dome

So... The Dome. This massive novel, 25 years in the writing (if Stephen King is to be believed), is quite his most ambitious project, and brings to mind earlier blockbuster novels which aficionados considered to be among the writer's best work. Something like the basic premise here may be found in a classic piece of British science fiction, John Wyndham’s The Midwich Cuckoos (filmed as Village of the Damned). In that book, a village is isolated by an invisible force field -- and in the King novel, the residents can no more get out than the outside world can enter. John Wyndham's narrative involved the insemination of the women in the town by unseen alien presences, but Stephen King in The Dome has chosen to work in a different area. When the small New England town of Chester's Mill is cut off from the outside world by a mysterious force, all the laws of physics seem to be up for grabs; cars leaving town come up against invisible barriers, and there is death and mutilation for whatever was caught in the boundaries of an invisible field. Inside the dome, the inhabitants of the town deal with the catastrophe in a surprising (and often alarming) variety of ways: ex-military hero Dale Barbara has already come up against the antisocial elements of the town, and has been trying to get out. But the self-styled boss of the town, the demagogue Big Jim Rennie, soon establishes a Machiavellian control (another echo of the books of John Wyndham, in which catastrophe always throw up vicious, fascist-style leaders who capitalise on the disaster).

Jenson Button My Championship Year

Jenson Button's re-emergence on the top step of the podium under the management of Ross Brawn has been the biggest story in Formula 1 for decades. MY GRAND PRIX SEASON is Jenson's personal diary of the 2009 season. In it, he takes a race-by-race approach, beginning each chapter with a run-down of everything from details of the circuit to pre-race testing, changes to the car, and notes on specific strategy and training, fitness and mental preparation. He relives practice and qualifying sessions, and of course gives a detailed account of each race from the driver's perspective. This personal commentary is interspersed with notes on techie stats and records broken, transcripts of in-car radio exchanges, quotes from the team, snippets from the TV commentary and even Jenson's own text messages to give a real sense of the spirit and atmosphere of each race weekend. Fans will have already seen the races, but this beautifully produced, highly illustrated book is an opportunity to relive the highs and lows and discover what it has really been like for Jenson to find himself suddenly at the front of the pack, with a truly competitive car at his disposal, after nine years spent waiting in the wings. With a foreword by team boss Ross Brawn and an introductory section giving the driver's perspective on the events leading up to the first race - including the demise of Honda, the last-minute management buyout and genesis of the Brawn team, and the development of the most advanced car on the grid - it is not only a fascinating and informative read, but also a must-have souvenir of a truly sensational season.

Michael Bay follows up his 2007 big-screen adaptation of the Transformers cartoon/toy franchise with the 2009 sequel TRANSFORMERS – REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. The epic battle for supremacy between the Autobots and the Decepticons rages on, and as usual, it's the humans who are caught in the crossfire.
The Decepticons continue to spearhead a destructive campaign against the earthlings and their Autobot protectors. But the main villain of the piece is The Fallen (voiced by Tony Todd), a centuries-old Giger-esque baddie who emerges from the scrap heap hungry for power. Having lain dormant for so long, his batteries are in serious need of recharging, and the only energy source in the galaxy powerful enough to restore him to his former titanic glory is the Earth's sun. The Fallen realises that draining the sun of its energy has the added benefit of wiping out the entire human race; something he has been plotting ever since his last attempt at harvesting the sun's energy was foiled.
Several characters from the first film return, including Sam (Shia LaBeouf), an all-American college freshman who enjoys a vague 'chosen one' status among the Autobots, and Mikaela (Megan Fox), his girlfriend, who's not only beautiful but handy with a wrench. However, the real star of the show is Optimus Prime (voiced by original voice actor Peter Cullen). The legendary head Autobot is given a lot more screen time in this outing, and features prominently in many of the manic action sequences. You don't even have to be an old-school Transformers fan to pick up on the mythos--he speaks in nothing but searing quips and infinite wisdoms, and can turn into a turbo-charged Mack truck at will. So even if Optimus Prime isn't your mental template for the warrior-king archetype, he still steals the show, and makes TRANSFORMERS 2 more than just passable. With its eye-popping visual effects and dramatic set pieces, this instalment manages to be an even bigger spectacle than the first, which is saying a lot for a film about giant robots that turn into cars.

New Super Mario Brothers - Wii and DS

The classic Mario platform game is coming to Wii! For the first time, you can experience an action-packed Mario platformer on Wii with simultaneous multiplayer fun.

A classic 2D adventure, the game follows the style of New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS. Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser and it’s up to Mario to save her, but this time he’s not alone. Up to four players can join in the fun at the same time, playing as Mario, Luigi or either one of the Toads. Of course, you can also play solo and perfect your performance but friends and family will soon want to grab their Wii Remotes and join in the mayhem.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a mix of cooperative and competitive play. Work together to rescue Princess Peach, or use your skills to battle for the best ranking. Co-operate by saving your friends from danger – or get rid of the competition by tossing them straight into it.

The game follows the style of New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS with new twists utilising the unique features of Wii. The motion control capabilities of Wii have been cleverly implemented to enhance the gameplay at certain stages. For example, the player can angle a see-saw like platform by tilting the Wii Remote, to reach secret areas or angle the beam of a lamp to see the way in the dark.

New features in the game include the new propeller suit, which, by shaking the Wii Remote, allows your character to fly and hover – great for reaching secret areas. You can also use your suit to help your fellow players, for instance if another player picks you up, you can both fly together. There is a new penguin suit too which enables you to throw ice balls at your enemy, jump onto your stomach and slide with incredible speed across icy sections of a stage. Players can even ride different Yoshis through the crazy and imaginative levels, using their tongues to swallow enemies – or their fellow players.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is also the first Nintendo game to feature a dynamic help system, which allows you to access a mode which allows you to watch how a level can be completed if you are stuck. The best thing about this mode is that you are free to jump into the action you’re watching on screen at any time!

Please note this is the Wii Description. DS version may vary.

Co-operation is the name of this game, as you struggle to reach a series of safe houses and eventual rescue, while all the time being assaulted by hundreds of zombies and other creatures. The five new campaigns (one more than the original) feature a more detailed story and finally explain how the outbreak occurred.

If all you're interested in is the action though then there are new melee weapons - including a chainsaw - and lots of new firearms. With new mutant types as well this is the perfect mix of survival horror and all out first person shooter action. Fearing for your life has never been so much fun.
